Johns Island standoff over after man surrenders peacefully
A standoff at a Johns Island home ended after a man threatening suicide surrendered peacefully to officers.
Police received a call about 6 a.m. from a Mobile Crisis physician who told dispatchers he spoke with a man at 1893 Staffwood Drive who said he was going to commit suicide. The man was reportedly armed, spokesman Charles Francis said.
Officers evacuated neighboring homes and called SWAT, Hostage Negotiation and Explosive Devices Unit, along with several Charleston County Sheriff’s deputies.
The situation ended shortly after 10 a.m.
