College of Charleston falls to No. 22 Furman in men’s soccer

GREENVILLE — Coleton Henning scored in the 17th minute to lead 22nd-ranked Furman to a 1-0 victory over College of Charleston (4-7, 0-1)in the Southern Conference men’s soccer opener for both schools on Tuesday.

Henning, the reigning SoCon Player of the Year, received a pass near the top of the box and dribbled around two defenders before placing a 22-yard shot into the upper left-hand corner at the 16:57 mark for his fifth goal for Furman (8-1-2, 1-0).

Kees Heemskerk stopped five shots for the Cougars.

Volleyball
College of Charleston beat Coastal Carolina 26-24, 17-25, 25-19, 25-23 in volleyball.

The Cougars (12-5) won their sixth straight match despite hitting .189. Coastal Carolina falls to 5-9. Emily Neideffer tied her career high with 14 kills, while Melissa Morello and Darcy Dorton had 13 each.

Emily Shelton had 21 digs.

College of Charleston hosts Wofford on Saturday.
