Charleston County Council voted 8-1 tonight to give administrator Kurt Taylor a raise of nearly 8 percent.

Taylor stepped into the county’s top post eight months ago with an annual salary of $167,000. The raise increases his salary to $180,000.

County Council Chairman Teddie Pryor said Taylor’s first several months on the job were considered a probationary period. Council is overwhelmingly satisfied with Taylor’s performance, and the raise brings his salary to a more competitive level, Pryor said.
