District 41 runoff Tuesday
Republican voters in the newly drawn Senate 41st distict will head to the polls from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday to pick their candidate for the Nov. 6 election.
The two Republicans on the ballot include former Charleston Councilman Paul Thurmond and incumbent Sen. Walter Hundley.
The winner will face Democrat and former Charleston City Councilman Paul Tinkler next month, depending on what the courts do.
Both Hundley and Thurmond are among the defendants in a new federal lawsuit questioning the legality of this special primary the seat. A three-judge panel is set to hear that case on Oct. 16.
District 41 includes much of West Ashley and parts of James Island, North Charleston and Summerville. It previously was represented by Lt. Gov. Glenn McConnell, who resigned his Senate after Lt. Gov. Ken Ard was indicted, pled guilty to ethics violations and stepped down.
