Charleston Countys Taylor may get 8 percent raise after 8 months on the job
Charleston County Council will decide Tuesday whether to give administrator Kurt Taylor a raise.
Taylor took over the county’s top post in February, with a $167,0000 annual salary, but council members are considering boosting that to $180,000. That represents a jump of nearly 8 percent.
Council’s Finance Committee approved the increase last week with a 8-1 vote, so it’s likely the measure also will pass Tuesday.
Councilman Joe Qualey, the only member who voted against the increase, said he thinks Taylor is doing a fantastic job, but an 8 percent jump is too much after only 8 months.
