Find out where sex offenders live before Halloween
One thing you don’t want your kids running into while out trick-or-treating next month is one of the hundreds of registered sex offenders living in the Charleston area.
So take a little time to plan around them. The website sheriffalerts.com allows you to find out where sex offenders live so you can avoid them.
Users can click on a state, choose a county and type in an address, and a map will come up showing registered sex offenders living within a one-mile radius. You can change the radius to cover more territory.
“We do the best we can in making sure sex offenders live where they tell us,” Dorchester County Sheriff L.C. Knight said in a reminder sent out Thursday. “The mapping and address feature found on the website pinpoints exactly where an offender lives.”
The website also allows users to sign up for email alerts if a sex offender moves within a certain radius of any address specified.
More than 320 registered sex offenders are living in Dorchester County, Knight said.
About 630 sex offenders live in Charleston County, and about 300 in Berkeley County.
