Joe Crespino
What: Joe Crespino will discuss and sign his book, “Strom Thurmond’s America,” where he examines the political career of S.C.’s longest-serving senator and how Thurmond, a Democrat until switching parties in 1964, helped shape modern conservatism and sparked the realignment of Southern and national politics. Crespino is an associate professor of history at Emory University.

Full Moon Kayak Paddle
What: Enjoy the “Rising of the Moon” over the calm harbor out of historic Shem Creek Shrimping Village. Group will stay alongside the marsh once it gets to the bay and will watch the moonrise over the ocean bay. All safety equipment and gear provided. Percentage of proceeds benefits an environmental cause.

Sunset Kayak Tour
What: Located behind Wild Dunes Resort on the Isle of Palms, Morgan Creek meanders through rich salt marsh estuary dotted with small verdant hammock islands. The paddle eventually leads group to Gray’s Bay, a vast tidal flat that is home to a variety of creatures from egrets, herons, pelicans, and gulls to dolphins, turtles and otters.

The Sugar & Spice Soiree will feature live music by Southern Flavor Bluegrass, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from Fork catering, and a live and silent auction. All proceeds from the event will benefit Florence Crittenton Programs, which provide a safe haven for young mothers.
