SC man just out of jail charged with murder
LAURENS, S.C. — A man released from a South Carolina prison earlier this year after serving time for a killing has been charged with a murder last spring.
Laurens police have charged Richard Evans will killing 81-year-old Willis Blakely, Jr., in April.
Police Chief Robin Morse says Evans attacked Blakely at this home, taking his car. Morse says Blakely went door to door, asking for help before he was found bleeding on a porch. He later died.
Evans already was in jail, charged with an armed robbery from May.
Morse says Evans had been released earlier this year after serving 18 years for cutting a clerk’s throat in the same community in the 1990s.
It was not clear if Evans has an attorney.
