Deputies end search for man who fled Ladson traffic stop
Charleston County sheriff’s deputies have called off a manhunt for a driver who fled a Ladson traffic stop after a search of the area came up empty.
With the aid of a helicopter, several law enforcement officers were combing the area between Highway 78 and College Park Road looking for the suspect, Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady said.
The incident began early this afternoon after a state trooper leaving the scene of an accident on Interstate 26 spotted a Chrysler sport utility vehicle with expired license tags, Lance Cpl. Bob Beres said. When he tried to pull over the car, the driver sped off, he said.
The driver abandoned the car about 2.5 miles away on Ladson Road and ran off, Beres said.
The suspect is described as a black man, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, 185 pounds, wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt.
