Summerville teen gets national award

Katie Stagliano, 14, of Summerville, was one of six activists honored last night at the Clinton Global Citizen Awards in New York City. Katie is the founder and executive gardener of Katie´s Krops, a nonprofit that maintains a garden to feed those in need.

Summerville teen Katie Stagliano was honored last night at the 6th Annual Clinton Global Citizen Awards in New York City. Katie attends Pinewood Preparatory School and is the founder and executive gardener of Katie’s Krops, a nonprofit that maintains a garden to feed those in need. She was presented a civil society award by actor Matt Damon.

President Clinton called Katie “a social entrepreneur on pace to take my job before she turns 16.”

Honorees were nominated by Clinton Global Initiative members and chosen in the areas of government, civil society, the private sector and philanthropy.
