The founders of a North Charleston company devoted to providing safe drinking water to people in developing countries and disaster areas, Molly and George Greene, have won the international SolarWorld Einstein Award presented by a solar power manufacturer.

The award brings with it 400 donated solar panels for the Water Missions effort. The water systems made by the company run on solar power.

Water Missions International is a Christian non-profit formed in 2001 by the Greenes, who sold an environmental engineering company to open it after hearing about bad water in Honduras following a hurricane. It has helped more than 2 million people around the world.

They are the first Americans to win the award in its eight years.
