The Citadel and defensive end Chris Billingslea (77) are ready to put Saturday’s 52-14 loss to North Carolina State behind them.

The Citadel’s 52-14 loss at North Carolina State on Saturday cost the Bulldogs only one spot in the FCS coaches poll announced today, as they slid to No. 15.

The Bulldogs also dropped just one spot in The Sports Network media poll, to No. 11.

Even better news: The loss did not cost the Bulldogs at all in their chase for a Southern Conference football championship.

The Citadel (3-1, 2-0 SoCon) returns to conference play this week against visiting Chattanooga (1-3, 0-1), with the game set for 6 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Hagood Stadium.

Bulldogs coach Kevin Higgins said his players must learn from the loss to a bigger, faster and stronger N.C. State team.

“They will see loud and clear on film what we didn’t do well against N.C. State,” he said today. “Hopefully, we will learn from that and show improvement on Saturday.”
