SLED issues Amber Alert for 12-year-old NC girl who may be traveling with sex offender
The State Law Enforcement Division has issued an Amber Alert for a 12-year-old North Carolina girl who may be traveling south on U.S. Highway 17 with a registered sex offender.
Abigale Faith LeFevers is described as a white female, 90 pounds, 5 feet 4 inches tall, with green eyes and brown, shoulder length hair. She was last seen in Newport, N.C., and was thought to be in the company of 38-year-old Timothy Howard Newman, traveling south of Highway 17.
Various media outlets in the Newport area are reporting that Newman is a sex offender, and he shows up as an offender on the N.C. Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry database.
He is a white male, 210 pounds, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with brown eyes and short brown hair.
They were riding in a 1998 Chrysler Sebring, painted red with a black top, and a N.C. license tag of AKT-6534.
The Amber Alert did not include information about the relationship between the missing girl and Newman or the circumstances surrounding her being missing.
