Charleston police say this surveillance photo shows a man using a stolen credit card at a store on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012. He is a suspect in a string of car thefts in the Charleston Neck area.

Charleston police suspect a man who used a stolen credit card might be connected with a string of car break-ins.

About 6:50 a.m. last Tuesday, a woman reported that her purse, iPhone and laptop had been stolen out of her car sometime during the night. A man was caught on a store’s video camera using a card from the stolen purse about 8:30 a.m. Police released photos from the video today hoping for tips.

The break-in was one of several recent thefts in the area near Interstate 26 and Mount Pleasant Street in the city’s Neck area, police Lt. Charles Hawkins said. Police want to find out if the man on the video is responsible for them, he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
