Charleston police are investigating a shooting that happened downtown overnight.

The shooting happened about 12:35 a.m. Thursday on King Street, police spokesman Charles Francis said.

Javanti Goodwin, 23, of Race Street was shot in his right thigh, then ran to a Moultrie Street residence, Francis said.

Authorities found Goodwin lying on the living room floor, and bleeding heavily from his wound, but conscious and responsive, an incident report states.

Goodwin told police he was leaving a store on King Street when he was shot by a black man who wore all black clothing.

Paramedics transported the man to Medical University Hospital to be treated for a non-life threatening injury, Francis said.

Police have not named a suspect in the shooting.
