Summerville pair convicted of robbing, beating man before leaving him naked
A Berkeley County jury has convicted a Summerville duo of luring a man onto a rural dirt street, robbing him and leaving him naked on the roadside in January 2011.
Ryan Carl Newman, 22, and Jessica Lynn Clark, 24, were found guilty of kidnapping, strong-arm robbery and first-degree assault and battery.
Newman, who had a previous burglary conviction, was sent to prison for 14 years. Clark, who didnít have a prior criminal history, hasnít been sentenced.
A statement from the Ninth Judicial Circuit Solicitorís Office said another co-defendant, who wasnít named, will be tried in the case.
The statement said Clark picked up the victim at his house and drove him to a desolate dirt road near Summerville, where Newman and the other co-defendant were waiting.
The group beat the man and stole his wallet, keys and cellphone, according to the statement. They made him strip naked before they fled.
