STAFF REPORT

South Carolina sophomore defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has been selected as the Southeastern Conference defensive lineman of the week for his performance against Alabama-Birmingham on Saturday.

Clowney, a 6-6, 256-pounder from Rock Hill, was credited with seven tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss totaling 17 yards, and two sacks in USC’s 49-6 win over the Blazers.

South Carolina held UAB to just 89 second-half yards and just 27 rushing yards in the contest on 42 carries. The Gamecock defense sacked UAB quarterbacks six times in the contest and forced five three-and-outs.

Clowney becomes the second Gamecock to be honored by the SEC this season. Junior tailback Marcus Lattimore was named the SEC offensive player of the week for his efforts in the season opener at Vanderbilt.

The seventh-ranked Gamecocks (3-0, 1-0 SEC) will be in action again on Saturday when they host the Missouri Tigers (2-1, 0-1 SEC). The game will be televised nationally on CBS at 3:30 p.m.
