Police: Man fatally stabbed father with sword at Mount Pleasant motel

A 22-year-old man is accused of using a sword to fatally stab his father this morning at a Mount Pleasant motel, authorities said.

Police arrested Elias James Walker on a murder charge, Mount Pleasant police Maj. Stan Gragg said.

The stabbing happened at the Fort Moultrie Motel at 1330 Stuart Engals Blvd., which is near Chuck Dawley Boulevard and Bowman Road.

Mount Pleasant police responded to the motel after 1 a.m. and found a man with stab wounds. He was taken to Medical University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Charleston County Deputy Coroner Dottie Lindsay identified the victim as 45-year-old Anthony Walker, Elias Walker’s father.

The Moultrie News cited a statement sent to town council members by Police Chief Harry Sewell.

“Through our investigation we have determined that it was his 22 year old son that killed his father,” Sewell was quoted as saying in the statement. “The suspect is in our custody at this time.”

Elias Walker was denied bond during a hearing this afternoon. Arrest affidavits stated that he confessed to using a sword to stab his father in his chest and neck as he slept.

Elias Walker has a very short criminal history, with arrests in Walterboro for disorderly conduct, giving liquor to minors and violating noise ordinance, according to State Law Enforcement Division records. The records don’t indicate the outcome of those cases.
