Senate 41 primary set for Tuesday
One dominant issue in Tuesday’s special GOP primary for the S.C. Senate 41 seat is why it’s happening in the first place.
Of approximately 200 state and local election contests voided by this year’s S.C. Supreme Court rulings, this is the only instance in which a political party has been allowed to reopen its nominating process —and candidates have been given a second shot at running.
Incumbent Sen. Walter Hundley, Charleston businessman Wally Burbage and former Charleston County Councilman Paul Thurmond are vying to become the Republican candidate for the District 41 seat on Nov. 6.
If no one gets more than 50 percent of the vote Tuesday, then a runoff will be held on Oct. 2.
The eventual winner will face off against Democrat and Charleston lawyer Paul Tinkler.
