Its time to visit Cape Romain, either for a day or as a volunteer
Now that the weather is a little cooler, it’s a great time to visit Cape Roman National Refuge.
On Saturday, there is the Bulls Island Beach Drop. Take a trip with Coastal Expeditions to the North Beach of Bull’s Island.
The boat tour takes visitors through the saltmarsh estuary and then to the island for a self-paced exploration of North Beach. The tour runs from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Contact Coastal Expeditions at 884-7684 or coastalexpeditions.com for reservations.
On Sept. 29, celebrate National Public Land Day. It’s the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer event for public land. Volunteer at the Sewee Center from 9 a.m. to noon.
Volunteers can help install “Animal Olympics” exercise equipment and interpretive panels for the children. All equipment will be provided. Volunteers should bring gloves and water.
But you don’t have to wait for National Public Land Day to volunteer. The Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge staff is looking for volunteers to handle the visitor information desk at the Sewee Visitor and Environmental Education Center on U.S. Highway 17.
For more information about volunteer activities, call 928-3368 or email gooden@fws.gov.
