Jeremy Zachary, a student in the Career Preparation Program at the S.C. School for the Deaf and the Blind, holds teacher Tim Surdyk to follow sign language words.

Families of students who are deaf-blind can learn about job opportunities, educational programs and special equipment at a seminar Sept. 21-23 at the S.C. School for the Deaf and the Blind in Spartanburg.

The seminar will be led by adults who are deaf-blind and professionals in the fields of education and rehabilitation.

Through activities, families can learn how to plan and access available resources.

Facilitators will work with families to develop step-by-step plans for transitions from school to the future.

Student participants should be 14 to 21 years old, still enrolled in school, and deaf-blind. The cost is $20 per family and includes food, lodging and materials. Travel expenses can be reimbursed through this grant-funded program.

Sponsors include S.C. Interagency Deaf-Blind Project, Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults, S.C. Commission for the Blind, USC-Upstate and S.C. School for the Deaf and the Blind.

For an application, contact Elaine Sveen, project manager, at 864-577-7770 or by email esveen@scsdb.org. Visit www.scsdb.org.

Applications from stu-dents who have a single visual or hearing impairment will be accepted if space is available.
