Hilton Head Island hotel getting makeover

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The second-largest hotel on Hilton Head Island is getting a $30 million makeover.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/RHAeya ) that work on the renovations at the Westin Hilton Head Resort & Spa in Port Royal Plantation is expected to begin by the end of the month.
Plans call for renovations of all 412 guest rooms as well as all public spaces and the pool area. The project includes the addition of an open-air bar and lounge.
Bill Miles with the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce says tourism is rebounding after the Great Recession. He says hotels are using increased revenues to reinvest in their properties.
Miles says it’s been the strongest year for tourism in Beaufort County since the downturn started.
