Charleston teen accused of breaking into golf course buildings twice
A Charleston teen who was caught crawling through an air ventilation system at the municipal golf course is responsible for a previous break-in there as well, police said.
Murphy Lopes, 17, of Charleston was arrested Aug. 30 when police caught him inside the Charleston City Golf Course building at 2110 Maybank Highway, Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis said.
When officers heard someone in the crawl space around the lobby, they found him trying to escape through the air vent that leads to the back of the building, police said. Police arrested him as he tried to crawl off the roof, Francis said.
He was charged with second-degree burglary and booked at the jail.
Charleston police charged him Tuesday with an Aug. 22 burglary at the same location. On that date, officers found the maintenance area garage door had been forced open but couldn’t find anyone there.
