This June 2011 file photo shows actors Blake Lively, left, and Ryan Reynolds at the premiere of "Green Lantern" in Los Angeles.

They fooled you.

Yellow construction signs outside Boone Hall Plantation pointing the way to a “private event” Sunday were actually guiding guests to super-secret celebrity nuptials.

Actor Ryan Reynolds, 35, and actress Blake Lively, 25, tied the knot at the Mount Pleasant plantation’s Cotton Dock over the weekend, People magazine reported. Celebrity gossip guru Perez Hilton reported on his website that there were about 70 guests.

The Gossip Girl and her beau created a whirlwind on social media Monday about the wedding in the Lowcountry.

Kelly Gukanovich, known as “Kelly G” on WSSX-FM’s “2 Girls & a Guy in the Morning” radio program, was credited by several celebrity websites as being the first to break the news with a Twitter post.

Gukanovich, who reports on entertainment and pop culture on 95sx, said she heard rumors that Reynolds was in town and began trolling for information. That eventually led to gossip gold.

Sources told her the couple had an intimate event, which was literally kept under wraps. A white curtain surrounded the dock at Boone Hall, she said.

Even after the wedding, many of those involved remain tight-lipped. Boone Hall Plantation officials would not confirm the wedding took place there, but they noted overwhelming interest about the event on the plantation’s Facebook page:

“We are receiving a number of inquiries this morning. From time to time Boone Hall Plantation hosts celebrity events. We respect the privacy of the individuals involved at these events.”

Helen Hill, executive director of Charleston Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, said the wedding says a lot about Charleston and how celebrities can have a special event here that remains private.

On Monday, wedding planner Tara Guérard, of Tara Guérard Soirée in Charleston and New York, confirmed she was the event designer and planner.

“Ryan and Blake wanted the event to look and feel like home,” she said. “With decor and live music, we all created the charm, elegance and magic of times passed. It was a truly beautiful evening and celebration.”

Guests enjoyed a $3,000 wedding cake, which was driven to Mount Pleasant from Maryland, according to Gukanovich’s sources. As if that weren’t enough, Bakehouse Charleston served up s’mores bars and mini chocolate bundt cakes.

Downtown restaurant Fig reportedly catered the wedding’s main fare, but restaurant representatives wouldn’t dish on the event. Grammy-nominated Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine is said to have performed, and Bette Midler also attended, Gukanovich said.

In 2011 the celebrity couple starred in the film “Green Lantern,” about a pilot turned super hero. It nearly took super powers to keep the news of Reynolds and Lively’s wedding shielded from the paparazzi.
