SPARTANBURG, S.C. — A North Carolina woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to charges in a wreck in South Carolina that killed two people.

Thirty-seven-year-old Candace April Beheler of Rutherfordton, N.C., pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of hit and run with a death for the wreck in Spartanburg County in May.

Two Chesnee residents, 25-year-old Jeremy Ryan Phillips and 26-year-old Danielle Elizabeth Hazelrigg were riding a motorcycle when a minivan driven by Beheler crossed the centerline of the road and hit them. Both died at the scene. They had planned to be married this year.

Police say Beheler and her passenger left the scene. She was arrested in North Carolina the next day.

Beheler apologized to the victims’ families in court Monday.
