Charleston area real estate gains continue

The residential real estate market in the greater Charleston area continued to show strength in August, with Charleston County accounting for most of the gains over last year.

The Charleston Trident Association of Realtors announced this afternoon that 1,004 homes were sold last month in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties. That’s 110 more homes than were sold in August 2011, and the median price of homes sold this August was nearly $14,000 higher than last year.

Most of the sales gains came in Charleston County, while August home sales in Dorchester County were flat compared to 2011. Berkeley County saw 14 more home sales this August.

“The August sales figures are ongoing evidence of consistency and stability in our market,” said CTAR President Herb Koger.

The association said sales volume this year is the best since 2007.

Also today, July home sales were revised upward by CTAR, from a preliminary report of 972 homes sold to a revised 984 sales.

Through August, 6,978 homes were sold in 2012 at a median price of $190,555. During the same 8-month period last year, 6,351 homes were sold at a median price of $178,844, according to CTAR.
