Social services innovator Bert Cicenia dies

ProvidedDr. Ebert F. 'Bert' Cicenia passed away Wednesday evening in Hawaii. He was 95. The Dorchester County resident was a military veteran, an innovator in the field of rehabilitation, a spokesperson and advocate for the disabled, a political activist and a community patriarch.

SUMMERVILLE — The man who helped found the Coastal Center Social for people with developmental disabilities and the Children in Crisis emergency shelter for abused minors, Bert Cicenia, died Wednesday.

Ebert F. “Bert” Cicenia was 95 years old.

He was a social services pioneer for Dorchester County and an innovator of those services.
