Clemson notes: Clemson’s DeAndre Hopkins baptized after practice

CLEMSON – Clemson receiver DeAndre Hopkins was baptized on the team’s practice fields after a practice last Thursday. Hopkins was surrounded by his teammates as he was baptized by Perry Noble, a pastor at NewSpring Church in Anderson.

Clemson receivers coach Jeff Scott released a photo of the baptism earlier this week.

“I am so proud of Nuk and how he has matured as a player, a young man and most importantly in his faith,” Scott wrote on his Twitter account.

Some of Clemson’s team and staff watched star receiver Sammy Watkins be baptized at New Spring Church last month.

Kelly’s verbal altercation a “nonstory”
Clemson backup freshman quarterback Chad Kelly was involved in an in-class, verbal altercation with a fellow student Friday.

Swinney said it is a non-story “unless you think two guys yelling at each other is newsworthy.”

Peake(ing) at the right time?
Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris said Charone Peake performed well in his start in place of Watkins against Auburn. Peake caught a modest four passes for 21 yards, but Clemson did not have time to throw deep due to pressure. Morris praised Peake’s blocking and route running. Peake will again start in place of Watkins as Watkins finishes out his suspension.

History lesson
In an effort to have his team not overlook non power-conference foes like Ball State, Swinney has reminded his team that it trailed Troy at the half last season and was tied with Wofford at halftime. Swinney is hoping to play more reserves against Ball State than he did in the opening week so Clemson can build some experienced depth.
