Obama watch party planned for Columbia
CHARLOTTE - The South Carolina Democratic Party will sponsor a watch party in Columbia for President Barack Obama’s convention speech tonight.
State Party Chair Dick Harpootlian said he hastily arranged the event for those from South Carolina who had planned to drive to Charlotte to see the speech in person but now cannot because weather forced the Democratic National Convention to move it from a large outdoor football stadium to a smaller arena.
The doors to the Columbia Convention Center will open at 7:30 tonight. There is no admission, and there will be food and drink available for purchase. Obama is expected to give his speech after 10 p.m.
The convention center is at 1101 Lincoln St. in Columbia.
