Rep. Jim Clyburn of South Carolina will speak to the Democratic National Convention Thursday night.

CHARLOTTE — U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn did not speak to the Democratic National Convention as planned Tuesday night, but he got a brighter spotlight in the deal.

The S.C. Democrat now is scheduled to share the same speaking night as the star of the show: President Barack Obama.

Clyburn spokeswoman Hope Derrick said speakers Tuesday generated a lot of applause, which caused the schedule to run behind. She said Clyburn agreed to move to Thursday at roughly the same time he was previously scheduled.

Clyburn appeared on the floor around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, greeted supporters and briefly visited with the S.C. delegation.
