AP Poll: Alabama new No. 1; USC still 9th; Clemson climbs to 12th
Alabama’s season-opening rout of Michigan on Saturday was good enough to vault the Crimson Tide over previously No. 1 Southern Cal in The Associated Press college football poll released Tuesday afternoon. Southern Cal dropped to No. 2 in the rankings despite its 49-10 victory over Hawaii. Alabama, ranked second last week, beat then No. 8 Michigan, 41-14.
South Carolina remained ninth in the poll after its 17-13 victory at Vanderbilt. Clemson moved up two spots to No. 12 following its 26-19 victory over Auburn.
