Downtown Calvary Episcopal Church Day School closes after more than 90 years

Calvary Episcopal Church Day School closed Friday after a more than 90-year run.

The downtown center is among a number of preschools statewide that’s reeling from changes the state has made to its voucher program for low-income families.

Calvary officials said they no longer could afford to operate, and they blamed the state.

State officials said that wasn’t true, and the payments to Calvary had decreased about 1 percent in the last two years.
