Upstate mother charged in daughters drowning death
SPARTANBURG -- A South Carolina mother has been charged in the death of her 10-month-old daughter.
Authorities say 21-year-old Mary Ann Williams of York was charged late last week with homicide by child abuse.
Deputies say Williams left her daughter, Aaliyah, unattended in a bathtub at a Spartanburg motel on August 20. Emergency workers revived the girl, but she died in a hospital about a week later when she was taken off life support.
Williams was being held in jail Sunday awaiting a bond hearing. It wasn’t known if she had an attorney.
