Two men arrested in Woods-Guerry double homicide
Two men have been arrested and charged with killing Dana Woods and June Guerry, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
“These are the two people responsible for the deaths of these two young ladies,” said Capt. Rick Ollic, who leads the sheriff’s detectives. “They were taken into custody this afternoon.”
The arrests came on the day when 18-year-old Dana Woods’ funeral was held. Woods and 22-year old June Guerry went missing around midnight Sunday and were found dead this week in Francis Marion National Forest. Both were shot to death, and the car they had been travelling in was found burned.
Police have filed murder charges against Caleb Brad Matlock, 23, of Regent Drive, Summerville, and Arthur Ray Chavis, 23, of S.C. Highway 402 in Cordesville, Ollic said.
Ollic described the men as aquaintances of the young women.
Both were being held in the Hill-Finklea Detention Center pending a bond hearing scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday.
