Citadel welcomes two new faculty members

Russell Sobel and Sergey Ponomarov have joined the faculty in the School of Business Administration at The Citadel.

Sobel will teach economics and entrepreneurship courses, while Ponomarov will teach supply chain management/logistics courses.

“There is a growing demand for courses in entrepreneurship and supply chain management so we are thrilled to add these two outstanding individuals to our already strong faculty,” said Dean Ron Green.

Sobel is a native of Charleston. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business economics from Francis Marion College in 1990 and his Ph.D. in economics from Florida State University in 1994.

Sobel has authored or co-authored more than 150 books and articles, including a nationally best-selling “Principles of Economics” college textbook. He is a visiting fellow at the South Carolina Policy Council and was recently a visiting scholar with the Initiative for Public Choice and Market Process in the School of Business at the College of Charleston.

In addition to teaching, Sobel will begin working on the proposed Citadel Center for Family and Entrepreneurial Business.

Ponomarov earned his doctorate at the University of Tennessee. His other educational degrees include a specialist degree in Economics of Enterprise, an MBA with a concentration in entrepreneurship and finance, and an M.S. degree in industrial statistics. Ponomarov’s professional experience in supply chain management includes positions in consumer marketing, Lean Six Sigma Operations and demand forecasting with 3M, The Hearst and Whirlpool corporations. He also has an extensive small business consulting experience and has published several articles related to supply chain management.
