Gibbes, Porter-Gaud team up for summer program
Porter-Gaud School and the Gibbes Museum of Art have teamed up to establish a summer internship program for a rising senior who has a strong interest in museum studies, studio art, art history or education.
The six-week program gives the intern a hands-on learning experience while providing assistance to the museum staff.
Funded by Charlie and Kay Wendell, longtime supporters of both institutions, the internship is offered to a Porter-Gaud student on an annual basis.
Lexie Meyer was named the 2012 summer intern and assisted in the museum’s curatorial, public relations and administrative departments, as well as with the summer art camp and Museum Store retail operation.
The Gibbes Museum of Art staff provided Meyer with a variety of experiences. “This program is helping me realize that I would like to one day work at a museum,” she said.
