A teenager was arrested trying to break into a shop at the Charleston City Golf Course early Thursday morning.

An alarm went off about 12:50 a.m. indicating somebody might be in the building at 2110 Maybank Highway, according to Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis. Officers arrived to find that an air vent on the front roof top had been broken out, and they also found clothing, a bicycle and a pill bottle. They surrounded the building and waited for the manager to arrive with a key.

When officers got inside, they heard somebody in the crawl space above the lobby, apparently trying to escape through the rear air vents, Francis said. An officer grabbed him as he tried to crawl off the roof in the back of the building.

Murphy Lopes, 17, of 446 Riverland Drive was charged with second-degree burglary and taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center, Francis said.
