Suspect in Morris Street holdup arrested

A North Charleston man wanted for an armed robbery on Morris Street was arrested today.

The U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested Malcolm Jerome Washington, 21, of Ree Street in North Charleston, about 1 p.m. at a house on Meeting Street Road, according to Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis. Washington, who is on probation for strong-arm robbery, is charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. He is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center and has a bond hearing scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday.

The robbery occurred about 1:20 a.m. Aug. 12, when the victim told police he was robbed of his iPhone and wallet by a man armed with a handgun. Police issued an arrest warrant for Washington on Aug. 21.
