Rifle Range Road still closed after sewer line break

Parts of Rifle Range Road in Mount Pleasant are closed after a sewer line broke in Tuesday’s heavy rain.

The road is closed northbound from Franke Drive and southbound from the Isle of Palms Connector, Mount Pleasant Waterworks spokeswoman Dionna Ebeling said.

Traffic is limited to residents who live in the immediate area.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department will provide school bus access to surrounding neighborhoods, Ebeling said.

Long Grove Drive is also closed, but Ebeling said access will be granted to residents of the Sweetgrass Neighborhood.

Repairs to the sewer line were expected to be completed Tuesday evening. Ebeling said crews worked on the line through the night, but haven’t finished. Repairs are now expected to be completed sometime this afternoon.

Authorities urge Mount Pleasant residents to limit the use of the wastewater system, and to avoid flushing toilets and running water for extended periods to reduce the chance of sewage overflows, Ebeling said.
