The Carolinas PGA Section championship will be played Tuesday-Thursday at Daniel Island Club’s Beresford Creek course.

A cut to the low 60 and ties will be made for the final round of the 54-hole tournament, which is open to spectators.

The tournament previously has been played at Daniel Island Club in 2007 and 2008. In addition to a cash prize, the winner also automatically qualifies for one of the two 2013 PGA Tour events played in the Carolinas — the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head Island or the Wyndham Champion in Greensboro, N.C. — and one of 10 qualifying spots for the 2013 PGA Professional National Championship.

North Charleston Open

The fifth annual North Charleston Open tournament will be Sept. 8-9 at Wescott Plantation. Ivan Schronce has won the two previous events. The entry fee is $200 for professionals and $140 for amateurs. The entry deadline is Saturday. Call (843) 871-2135 for information.

Charleston GolfWeek Amateur tour

Ernie Timmerman scored a one-shot victory with a score of 78 in the Charleston GolfWeek Amateur tour event played at Penny Branch Golf Club. Rick Hopper shot 73 for a one-shot margin over Brent Perry in Flight A; Dennis Miller won Flight B by three shots with a 77; Randy Woodward won Flight C with a score of 84; and Sean Galpin won Flight D at 82.

S.C. Mid-Am Four-Ball

Josh Ridley of Lexington and Matt Faulkner of Greenville shot an opening-round 63 and were declared the winners of the South Carolina Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championship at Orangeburg Country Club. The event was scheduled for 36 holes but the final round was canceled because of heavy rains. Bert Atkinson of Charleston and Sammy Truett of Surfside Beach were second with a score of 64.
