Citadel plans to start season with bang: Free tickets and fireworks vs. CSU
With only five home games this football season, The Citadel wants to maximize every opportunity at Johnson Hagood Stadium.
That means free tickets and fireworks for the Sept.1 opener against Charleston Southern, set to kickoff at 6 p.m.
“Opening weekend, two local teams, what better time to do it?” said Citadel athletic director Larry Leckonby.
Free tickets for the game, sponsored by Kirkman Broadcasting, can be picked up at Lowcountry locations of Morris Nissan, Lyerly’s Cleaners and East Bay Deli. A fireworks show is set for right after the game.
The opener is also part of the NCAA’s “Take a Kid to the Game” program, with children 12-and-under admitted free with a paying adult. Also, there will be buy-one, get-one free coupons in The Post and Courier on Sunday and Aug. 31.
Other game day notes for this season:
(bullet) A Kids Zone with jump castles, face-painting and other activities will open one hour before kickoff.
(bullet) Dog Walk starts two hours before kickoff, with the players walking into the Altman Athletic Center. The Corps of Cadets marches in 20 minutes before kickoff.
Other promotions this season include Military Appreciation Day (Sept. 8 vs. Georgia Southern), Hall of Fame Game (Sept. 29 vs. Chattanooga), Parents Day (Oct. 13 vs. Western Carolina) and Homecoming (Nov. 3 vs. Elon).
Even better news: Starting in 2013, there will be six home games in each of the next three seasons.
