Orange Grove Elementary Charter School
Name: John H. Clendaniel.
Age: 30.
Family: Wife, Shawna; daughter, Brinley, 6; and son, Reed, 4.
Experience: Four years as a teacher and coach at Military Magnet Academy; five years as the assistant principal of Orange Grove Elementary Charter School.
Education: Bachelor of Science in elementary education from the College of Charleston; Master of Education: Educational Leadership (administration) from The Citadel; Specialist in Education (superintendent) from The Citadel.
Why I wanted to go into education: As a student, I was so fortunate to have some really outstanding teachers, mentors and role models in my life. As an administrator, I am happy to say that I am still surrounded by outstanding teachers. I wanted to go into education to motivate students and inspire them to become the best individuals that they can be.
Something I’ve always wanted to learn: I thoroughly enjoy surfing and other water sports, so I think that I would also enjoy learning how to kiteboard.
Something most people don’t know about me: My grandfather, who was one of my childhood heroes, was a farmer, and I feel that I share his love for nature and the outdoors. The reward of the work, peacefulness and sustainment of oneself are all intriguing. I can see my wife and I as an old couple on a farm someday.
Something important life has taught me: To not dwell on the history of the past but know that there is hope in the future.
A specific goal for this year: To continue to build upon the success that has personified Orange Grove for the past 49 years.
