Fatal wreck on Dorchester Road, driver charged with felony DUI
The driver of a Chevrolet Blazer involved in a fatal wreck this morning has been charged with felony driving under the influence.
The vehicle rear-ended a street sweeper about 2 a.m. while headed west on Dorchester Road near Ceder Grove Subdivision, North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.
Three people were riding in the vehicle. Police arrested the driver Deon Bernard Nero, 26, of West Blue Grass Drive at the scene.
The vehicle’s front passenger died at the scene from massive face and head trauma. Dorchester County Coroner Christopher Nisbet identified the dead man as the suspect’s father Gleefus Nero, 58.
Gleefus Nero was wearing a seat belt.
Injuries suffered by the vehicle’s other two passengers were not life threatening, Pryor said.
Paramedics treated the back seat passenger at his home. The man ran there after the accident because he was scared, Nisbet said.
The street sweeper did not report injuries on the scene.
