MOUNT PLEASANT — Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina broke ground Friday on a $5 million new restaurant and yacht club.

The 18,000-square-foot building is expected to be completed by April.

The nautically themed restaurant has not been named, but it will not be part of a national chain, according to hotel officials.

It will offer local Charleston cuisine with a focus on seafood, hotel marketing director Tracy Mitchell said.

The new restaurant will include outdoor seating, private dining and a rooftop bar. The building also will house a private yacht club, fitness center and marina support store.

The new building will precede the 90-plus room expansion of the hotel that is expected to begin in January. The hotel currently has 130 rooms. The restaurant will be between the existing pavilion and the hotel expansion.

“This signals the start of us building a world-class destination resort,” said Oliver Rooskens, hotel general manager.
