The Waffle House on Savannah Highway near Main Road in West Ashley was the scene of a early morning shooting on July 15 that left one man dead and another wounded. Authorities today said one man fired both shots and charged Deonte Brown, already jailed and awaiting trial on an attempted murder charge, with murder.

A man who was already in jail in connection with a shooting at a local Waffle House last month was charged with murder today.

Deonte Steven Brown, 198, of Ravenel is charged in the death of Dantaye Reed, 19, of Ravenel.

Brown had already been charged with attempted murder in the wounding of Quinton Allen, 28, of Johns Island.

The men were shot July 15 at the Waffle House at 3565 Savannah Highway in West Ashley. Investigators say Brown shot Allen after they started fighting in the restaurant, then shot Reed outside the restaurant.

Investigators linked Brown to the death through ballistic tests on the bullets, which indicated they both came from the same gun, Charleston County Sheriff’s Maj. James Brady said.

Brown was the only one who had a gun during the altercation, and Allen identified Brown as the shooter, Brady said.

Brown is being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center. A bond hearing is set for 2 p.m. Friday.
