Wreck snarls Interstate 26 in Dorchester County, all lanes now open
A tractor trailer carrying a roll of steel ran off the road and struck several trees westbound on Interstate 26 Wednesday morning.
The wreck happened shortly before 4 a.m. at the 170 milemarker in Dorchester County.
S.C. Department of Transportation cleared several trees that landed in the road because of the wreck, which blocked traffic for more than three hours.
All of the lanes have since been opened, S.C. Highway Patrol spokesman Cpl. Bob Beres said.
The truck’s driver, a Sumter man, was flown to the Medical University of South Carolina for treatment.
The cause of the wreck is under investigation, Beres said.
