Matthew Skole belted two solo homers and drove in three runs for the Hagerstown Suns as they downed the Charleston RiverDogs, 6-0, in South Atlantic League baseball with 2,677 on hand at Riley Park on Wednesday night.
The RiverDogs (60-53, 21-25 second half) couldn’t get much going against Taylor Hill (10-6) and two relievers. Hill allowed eight hits and two walks over six shutout innings, while Richie Mirowski and Leonard Hollins combined for three perfect innings to close out the victory.
Skole provided all the offense Hagerstown (67-48, 25-21) would need with a solo homer in the fourth off starter Philip Wetherell (5-6), an RBI single in the seventh and a solo homer — his 27th of the year — in the ninth.
Reymond Nunez had two doubles for the RiverDogs, while Dante Bichette Jr. and Ali Castillo each had two hits.
Before the game, one lucky fan participated in a closest to the pin contest on the field with RiverDogs players Fred Lewis and Ben Paullus, as the PGA Experience was on hand and will be at the park during the entire series. Lewis won the contest between the three.
Today, fans can witness the RiverDogs debut of right-hander Corey Black (0-0, 0.00 ERA) as he faces off against right-hander Blake Schwartz (1-0, 3.31 ERA). On Budweiser Thirsty Thursday, the Ashley View Pub will have $1 food and beverage specials and the stylings of DJ Natty Heavy.
