TEAM

No 10. Ft. Dorchester

2011 RECORD: 7-5, 2-2

RETURNING STARTERS: 10 (five on offense, five on defense)

PLAYERS TO WATCH: WR T.J. Smith, LB Keyvn Flores, LB David Govan, DL DeAnte Butler, DE Myles White, LB Eugene March, DB Bryce Tapscott.

THE SKINNY: Fort Dorchester lost some big-time players from last year’s team, but the underclassmen have the potential to be the best group in school history. Linebackers Flores and Govan are both juniors and among the best in the Lowcountry.

WHAT THE COACH SAYS: “We’re going to be as young on the field as we’ve ever been, but this is a very talented, athletic group.” — Steve Laprad

PLAYER

No. 10 Vernon Moree

SCHOOL: Ashley Ridge

POSITION: Running back. YEAR: Senior

2011 STATISTICS: Moree rushed 119 times for 804 yards and ran for 10 touchdowns. He also caught 31 passes for 509 yards and five touchdowns.

THE SKINNY: Moree at 6-0, 190 pounds, is versatile in the Swamp Foxes’ offense. Coach Kenny Walker will have him line up as a wide receiver because of his ball-catching ability. He is very physical, but also elusive. He and Romelo Doctor are one of the best 1-2 running combinations in the state.

WHAT THE COACH SAYS: “Vernon is a big key to our offense. We are relying on him to make our offense complete.” — Kenny Walker
