Cross man wins lottery, doesnt tell wife
A Cross man kept a big secret from his wife for days. Tempers won’t flare when the truth comes out, though, as he plans to surprises her with a $500,000 prize he won in the lottery.
The man told South Carolina Education Lottery officials he drove to Columbia to cash in his prize while his wife was still asleep in bed.
He planned to be home by lunch to surprise her.
The man plans to use the money to pay off the couple’s home and buy both new vehicles. He told officials there’s no telling how his wife will react to the news.
“I’m her prize now,” the man joked.
The winning Palmetto Cash 5 ticket was purchased Wednesday from BD Foodmart, at 1267 Trojan Road in Cross, and matched all five numbers drawn, lottery spokesman Holli Armstrong said. The ticket holder also “Powered-Up,” multiplying the $100,000 top prize to $500,000.
BD Food Mart in cross received $5,000 commission for selling the winning ticket.
