A section of Rivers Avenue was closed for about two hours today because of a fire.

North Charleston firefighters were called to an empty building beside the Value Place motel on Rivers Avenue between Mall Drive and East Montague Avenue about 12:30 p.m., spokeswoman Bianca Sancic said. Smoke and flames were coming from the building, and it took crews nearly 50 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

There were no reported injuries, and the fire remains under investigation.

Emergency crews closed that section of Rivers Avenue and diverted traffic onto Mall Drive for about two hours.
